About Us

History

For more than 70 years Clark Schaefer Hackett has been providing accounting, tax and business services to the companies and families of Ohio and the surrounding areas.

The long history of the firm began in 1938 when Virgil Clark set up an office in Middletown. What began as a small accounting practice over the years has grown into one of the Top 60 CPA firms in the nation and one of the Top 5 firms in the region.

In 1961 the Cincinnati office was opened as the firm began the process of expansion. Under the leadership of Bill Schaefer the firm continued to grow, opening the Springfield office in 1967, the Columbus office in 1980 and the Dayton office in 1983. In 1992 the torch was passed to Pete Hackett who served as President and then Chairman until 2002. Neil O'Connor became President and in 2003 he became Chairman of the Firm, with Tom Hazelbaker taking over as President. Mr. Hazelbaker served as President until July 2008 when he became Chairman and Carl Coburn became President.

Throughout the years, increasing numbers of clients have chosen Clark Schaefer Hackett from among the many professional CPA firms available. The firm has grown gradually and sensibly, expanding throughout Central and Southwestern Ohio.

Professional Affiliations

Clark Schaefer Hackett is an active member, and one of the founding members, of AGN International - an association of more than 179 CPA firms located throughout the United States and around the world. AGN was formed to help members improve and provide clients with the most professional accounting services available. Our membership in AGN gives us all the advantages of a national firm, but with one major difference, we are able to retain those advantages unique to local and regional firms, most importantly, personal services.

Also, CSH is a long-time member firm in the Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), and its SEC Practice Section. Enrollment in this section requires adherence to the highest standards of professional competency and subjects the firm to a rigorous peer review every three years, which Clark Schaefer Hackett has always successfully completed.
