MIDDLETOWN – Thomas D. Hazelbaker, CPA, has been named the 2010 Ohio University Beta Alpha Psi Accountant of the Year. The award is bestowed annually to recognize personal and professional excellence in the field of accounting.
It is a special honor for this award to be earned by a professional who is not himself an OU alumnus. Hazelbaker is a graduate of The Ohio State University, but has served on the Ohio University Accounting Advisory Board since its inception in 2000, and is currently Chairman of that board. His longstanding volunteer commitment to both OU and the accountancy profession has earned Hazelbaker this honor. The award will be presented at a banquet at Ohio University on May 20th.
“To be recognized for a meaningful career is an honor,” said Hazelbaker. “I’d like to think that by giving back to the community and the profession, I have in some small way served others. If that’s true, I am proud to have earned an award that recognizes the importance of service leadership.”
This recognition builds on Hazelbaker’s previous honor, bestowed by the OSCPA. He is the 2009 recipient of the Gold Medal for Meritorious Service to the Accounting Profession.
Hazelbaker is the Chairman of Clark Schaefer Hackett, a “Top 100” regional public accounting firm with six offices located in Ohio and serving clients in the Midwest. With nearly 30 years of experience with the firm, Tom has served in many roles, including president, executive vice president, shareholder-in-charge of both the Middletown and Dayton offices and treasurer.
